Voice Lessons

 

Voice lessons are offered on a weekly basis. Bi-monthly or bi-weekly lessons are offered if availability permits.

We will explore major vocal techniques and areas such as:

 

-Identifying registers of the voice

-Expanding range

-The importance of style in genre

-Breath support and control

-Improvisation

-Ornamentation

-Pitch

-Ear training and sight singing

-Basic music theory.

 

Lessons are tailored to the student's specific needs so that each student has a fulfilling and productive experience.

I specialize in pop, folk, blues, jazz, and Broadway styles while utilizing classical technique.

A typical lesson will consist of a thorough warm up using a vocalise focused on your specific needs (i.e.) if you need to focus on breath control, your vocalise will use phrasing that caters to those needs. After warming up, a vocally challenging song of your choice will be selected. We will approach technique and guidance through your song as it is needed. To end the lesson, ear-training and/or sight singing will be explored with a simple exercise.

 We will often record songs as a learning tool to dissect and identify areas of progress as well as areas where more focus is needed. These recordings are confidential and for learning purposes only; They are never shared or or distributed. They can be imported onto a thumb drive or CD upon request.

 

Piano Lessons

 

Beginning to intermediate lessons consist of basic music theory including note reading and rhythm. I may suggest a book to work out of or custom create a curriculum based on the needs of the student. Most commonly piano lessons begin with easy excerpts of classical songs to reinforce note reading ability. Later, lessons can consist of contemporary or pop songs to build the ability to play by ear, utilize musical intuition, and accompany oneself while singing. (Disclaimer: A full 88 key [weighted] electric keyboard is used for piano lessons.)

It is important and mandatory for the student to have a piano or a keyboard at home to practice and reinforce what is learned in lessons.

 

 

 

Recording Services

 

CJ Harvey STUDIOS is experienced with the following programs:

-Pro Tools

-Reaper

 

 

Demos, and instrumental tracks are offered to students and non-students for a small fee*.

Please supply your own CD, thumb drive, or external hard drive to upload sessions.

Basic alterations and edits can be made, you should seek out a professional engineer for mixing and mastering.

Accompanist for Hire

Caryl J Harvey DBA Carly Harvey may be hired as an accompanist for a gig, recital or school performance for a fee* to include transportation.
